The association, which was established in 1976, has as its major objectives the development and promotion of the practice of oral pathology and the advancement of knowledge in clinical aspects, laboratory diagnosis and research in oral pathology and also the encouragement of communication between individuals of all nations in pursuance of these objectives. Any individual who is interested in oral pathology is eligible for membership of the association, provided that such a person conforms to the recognised standards of professional ethics.
The International Academy of Oral Oncology (IAOO) was established in 2005, and draws together for the first time formally, clinicians and scientists worldwide, working on issues relating to the etiopathogenesis, epidemiology, prevention and management of oral and perioral tumors and of oral disease in patients with malignancies.
IAOO consists of a wide range of clinicians and scientists worldwide, leaders in their fields, who have united to establish the Academy.
IAOO draws its authority from its Founding Fellowship of clinicians and scientists of repute worldwide, leaders in their fields, who have united to establish the only independent international body representing the interests of the whole spectrum of sciences related to oral oncology.
The IAOO mission is to bring together clinicians and scientists working in the field of oral oncology, so that advances in medical science can be made and translated speedily into benefits for patients.
IAOO Fellowship is open to all with an interest in the field, subject to certain conditions detailed in the constitution. Full Fellows and Fellows in Training can attend IAOO congresses at a reduced rate. The Full Fellowship yearly fee where paid, is also inclusive of the subscription to Oral Oncology: A Journal Related to Head & Neck Oncology & Pathology.
